With Anecdotes From Her 85 Years as a Colorado Rancher

“GRANDMA MOSES STARTED PAINTING at age 78, and so did I. A long time ago our son Dexter and his wife Jane gave me a book of Grandma Moses’ paintings and I thought, “If she could make such beautiful paintings in old age, I can at least try.” I want my art and this book to encourage others to take up painting, no matter how much experience you do or don’t have. Yes, it takes courage but if you’re fortunate, your friends and family will support your art making. So you see, at any age you can pick up a pen or a paintbrush and express yourself creatively. Don’t be afraid, have a light heart, and especially don’t be too critical of yourself.”

A Halloween Self Portrait

“WHEN MY ALMA MATER TOSSED its band uniforms in 2015, I call myself lucky that my daughter Cara and almost-daughter Edith had the good sense to crawl in the dumpster and grab a few. Half of Gunnison dressed as Western State Colorado University marching band members the next Halloween, including me.”
